Why Store Wine?
One of wine's great attractions is its ability to develop and improve in the bottle over time. The various chemical components of a wine will often integrate with each other to offer a more complex and harmonius experience. Primary fruit characteristics such as berry and citrus flavours develop into more complex and intriguing secondary characteristics (leather and toast), while tannins and oak, often responsible for a wine's brutishness in infancy, will soften and mellow accordingly.
Of course this is not true for all wines and certain examples and styles will actually deteriorate with time in bottle. The quality of a vintage generally dictates whether a particular wine will improve with age and whether it will increase in value as it matures.
Wine Storage Conditions
For wine to develop properly, ideal cellaring conditions must be used.The fundamental issue is temperature. Experts agree that a constant temperature within 14C - 16C is ideal. High humidity (60-80%) and the absence of UV light and vibration also play important roles.
Wines in less than ideal conditions will develop sooner and, whilst they may retain their structure, fruit characters will rapidly fade and the overall vibrancy and freshness of the wine will be lost.

Wine Storage Options
Wine enthusiasts seeking an effective cellaring solution have the option of building a home cellar, buying a wine cabinet or seeking off-site professional storage. Each has advantages and it is quite common for enthusiasts to utilise a combination of these solutions.
Professional wine storage is the most cost effective storage option available to wine enthusiasts. The most popular wine cabinets from Vintec & Liebherr house 110 bottles and retail for ~ $3100. 110 standard bottles can be stored in professional wine storage for less than $19 per month. In effect the same outlay for one wine cabinet will buy you over 13 years worth of professional storage!
Why Wineaway?
Wineaway is Queensland's most popular professional wine storage destination. Our Brisbane facility is located in the inner-city northern suburb of Bowen Hills. The facility is also easily accessible from southern and western suburbs via the Hale St/Inner City Bypass (Abbotsford Rd exit). Our Gold Coast facility is located in Southport, only two minutes drive from the Southport Hospital.
Our service is fully managed. Wines can be delivered to us in person or you can instruct retailers and/or wineries to deliver directly to us. We also provide a pick up service. Upon receipt we catalogue the wines, inspecting each bottle (where appropriate) and transferring relevant data to our online database. Collections are then physically placed within the cellar in compartments dedicated solely to each individual client.
When you wish to retrieve wine you can simply log on to your personal database, select the appropriate wines and time of pick up (or delivery if req'd) and we will then do the rest. Prior day's notice is always appreciated; however, urgent same-day retrievals can nearly always be accommodated.
