Tasting Notes

As usual, the 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Les Impénitents is one of the wines of the vintage in the Beaujolais, opening in the glass with aromas of black raspberries, mulberries, cracked pepper, orange rind and peonies. On the palate, it's deep, full-bodied and enveloping, with a concentrated and multidimensional core, powdery tannins and a long, lingering finish. This is somewhat broader and more immediate than the 2017 rendition, and while its aging potential is prodigious, it will be more approachable young. As readers will remember, this bottling is a special cuvée derived from three parcels within Javernières that were planted between 1912 and 1914. William Kelley for Robert Parker
