Domaine Cornu

Located in the village of Magny-Les-Villers which is right on the border of where the Cote de Nuit & Cote de Beaune meet the Cornu family have been quietly crafting authentic wines from plots in Burgundy’s heart for generations. The Domaine was founded over fourty years ago with winemaking in the hands of Alex Cornu who took over from his father Claude in 2008, although Claude is very much still a strong presence in the cellar. After working at Vosne Romanee’s most famous producer Domaine de La Romanee Conti for several years Claude returned to the family estate and grew holdings from 3 Acres to the current holding of 19 Acres with vines in some fantastic sites including Savigny Les Beaune, Ladoix, Pernarnd Vergelesses and the flagship holding on the famous Grand Cru hill of Corton. The vineyard practices are predominately organic with the Lutte Raisonnee (reasoned struggle) philosophy adopted to produce vibrant fruit of high quality and low yields. In the winery natural yeasts are used and all reds are 100% destemmed with a mixture of barrel age and maturation depending on the cuvee.

The name Corton is one of the most recognized and historic vineyards in the world !  Receiving Grand Cru status in 1937 the Grand Cru vines are situated on the mid to lower part of the famous Hill which it shares with its famous sibling Corton–Charlemagne which is dedicated to white wine.  Corton is the only Grand Cru Red of the Cote de Beaune & the largest Grand Cru in Burgundy with some of Burgundys most famous names producing red wines from the Hill of Corton including Romanee Conti, Leroy & Meo–Camuzet.
