TERRA SANCTA – Outstanding Ratings, Exceptional Value

Central Otago has no shortage of elite Pinot Noir, but every now and then a small producer smashes one over the fence for six and the world takes notice. Terra Sancta has done exactly that this month – not once, but twice, for both their #1 wine (Slapjack Pinot – 100pts) and their tailender (Mysterious Diggings Pinot - $29).

From the oldest vines on the famed Felton Road strip of Bannockburn, Terra Sancta continues to prove why this tiny pocket of land is considered hallowed ground for Pinot Noir. Farmed organically, made with absolute precision, and guided by founders Mark Weldon and Sarah Eliot’s obsession with site expression, these wines have become some of New Zealand’s most decorated. This year’s global recognition has simply cemented what the insiders already knew.

And the accolades? They’re nothing short of staggering!

James Suckling has just rated the 2024 Mysterious Diggings Pinot as the #4 wine in the world in his Top 100 Wines of the World 2025.

Not the 4th best Pinot Noir mind you. The 4th best wine full stop. It is the only wine from the Southern Hemisphere in the Top 9 wines.

As if that weren’t enough, the 2024 Slapjack has just landed a perfect score of 100 points, with Suckling calling it “perhaps the greatest pinot noir I have ever tasted in New Zealand.” James may well be known for generous scores however to put things into perspective it’s only his second 100-point red in several decades of critiquing, the last piece of perfection being a 2010 Rippon.

The 100pts alone would cause a stampede, however, paired with the global Top 5 ranking for its little sibling, Terra Sancta has delivered one of the most remarkable one-two punches we’ve seen from New Zealand since the days of Richard Hadlee and Martin Crowe.

As long term supporters of Terra Sancta we have been given a unique and exclusive opportunity to offer the 100pt 2024 Slapjack Pinot (release RRP $125/b) along with the 2021 Slapjack Pinot (97-points and an enthralling, intellectual vintage in its own right) at an averaege of $99 per bottle in a range of curated mixed packs for those looking to stock the cellar with New Zealand royalty.

Mysterious Diggings is available in the mixed packs and individually as well for those eyeing the best value for money Pinot in the world.

In a year crowded with big releases and sharp deals, it’s rare to see two of the world’s top wines come from the same producer – and rarer still to access them at pricing that remains genuinely sensible for the calibre. With this level of acclaim, we expect our small allocation to depart quickly.
