A masterly assembly of small parcels from across the Barolo region, the 2018 Castiglione is a sophisticated "snapshot of the vintage," capturing a year that favoured grace and aromatic lift over raw power.

In the glass, it shows a luminous ruby red color, leading into a highly perfumed and precise bouquet of crushed red cherries, rose petals, and sweet spices, with subtle undertones of iron and "rusty nail."

The palate is defined by its medium-bodied silkiness and exceptional clarity; the fruit is bright and focused, supported by "silky tannins that give the wine its shape and feel," according to lead critic Antonio Galloni of Vinous. Monica Larner of Wine Advocate highlights its "tonic and clean" varietal tones, celebrating it as a real charmer that maintains its hallmark value. Despite the challenges of the season, Vietti achieved a remarkable harmony here, weaving a refreshing acidity into a long, fragrant finish that hints at wild berry and anise.
