Te Mata is New Zealand’s oldest wine estate, with every step of wine making undertaken on site – from vine to glass – in the foothills of Te Mata Peak. Cabernet, chardonnay and pinot noir were first planted on these hills in 1892 and the first wines released in 1896. Within a decade they were winning gold medals across the globe. While the estate has grown, Te Mata still hand harvest from the same vineyards, and age wines in the original barrel halls – the oldest in New Zealand.

Coleraine is New Zealand’s greatest red wine. Internationally recognised since its first production in 1982, Coleraine is a powerful statement of Te Mata’s Hawke’s Bay multi-vineyard, sub-regional blending philosophy. Cabernet sauvignon dominant, supported by merlot and cabernet franc, it is recognised as one of the world’s great wines and renowned for its pedigree in establishing the New Zealand fine wine story.
  • “a national treasure” Jancis Robinson UK
  • “New Zealand’s greatest winery” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate USA
  • “The legendary Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend of New Zealand. NZ’s Sassicaia.” James Suckling
  • “When Coleraine was first made in 1982, it was light years ahead of any New Zealand red wine produced before that date. It has since become the country’s most iconic wine label.” Bob Campbell MW
