Crafted from certified organic Sangiovese grapes grown in the heart of Panzano’s Conca d’Oro, the 2019 Fontodi is a striking example of the finesse achievable in a benchmark Tuscan vintage. This wine presents a brilliant ruby-red appearance, leading into an expansive and highly nuanced bouquet of crushed flowers, lavender, and pipe tobacco, layered with vibrant red and purplish fruit and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is celebrated as one of the most elegant Chianti Classicos produced at the estate, offering a delineated structure where succulent cherry and raspberry flavours are balanced by a fine, energetic acidity and a distinct mineral undercurrent. Antonio Galloni of Vinous highlights its exceptional poise, noting that "the 2019 is one of the most elegant Chianti Classicos I have tasted at Fontodi." The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak, which integrates seamlessly to provide a smooth, polished texture and a long, persistent finish marked by notes of mineral and tobacco.
