Tasting Notes

From the best of the dry-grown vines planted in '73; hand-picked, destemmed, sorted and cold-soaked prior to fermentation, matured for 18 months in French hogsheads (40% new) before a final barrel selection to create this wine. Deep, dense purple-crimson; it has a startling depth and density of flavour, reflecting the low yield, an excellent vintage, and adroit work in the winery. The waves of luscious blackberry and blackcurrant fruit are vibrant, sidelights of spice, licorice and pepper joining with ripe tannins and cedary oak to complete an outstanding wine. Outrageous value. James Halliday Wine Companion
