Tasting Notes

Rompicollo translates as “breakneck” but means a tremendously steep and slippery slope – a risky adventure. We think of it as a bit of a good luck charm for the first Tuscan vineyards that became a part of our family in 1997, and at the time was quite an adventure. Whether luck or hard work, these 66 hectares of Rompicollo vineyard have become home to one of our very best go-to red wines. Rompicollo is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from the famous volcanic tuff soils in the wild Maremma countryside, in what can be considered Italy’s far west. A smooth, full-bodied wine with an irresistible bouquet, it will transport you to the aromas and emotions of Tuscany’s rolling hills.

A deep, bright ruby red in color, on the nose it offers an elegant, varied bouquet of ripe berry fruits (such as blackberries and raspberries), dried aromatic herbs and delicate sweet spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, mellow and mouth-filling, with velvety tannins. Though richly flavored, it displays an attractive suppleness in the mouth. - Winery note
