Tasting Notes

The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru les Butteaux has a precise, well-defined bouquet with scents of white flower and flint gently unfolding with time in the glass. This is very classic. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity: citric and edgy, real nervosité here like the Montée de Tonnerre and with superb length in the mouth. This has a long future ahead—a classic Chablis that might be pipped by the 2015s in the long term, but that is a moot point when it is this good. Neal Martin
