Sourced from the historic Cyril Henschke Vineyard in Eden Valley, the 2021 release captures the precision and quiet authority of an exceptional Eden Valley vintage. A cool, even growing season delivered fruit of remarkable aromatic clarity and structural refinement, allowing the estate’s hallmark savoury Cabernet character to shine with particular definition.

Awarded 98 points by Wine Enthusiast, Christina Pickard called it “a standout wine in a standout vintage,” praising its “sexy, silky completeness and drinkability.” Composed of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon with 1% Merlot and matured for 18 months in predominantly seasoned French oak hogsheads, the wine opens gradually with layered aromas of cassis, blood plum, blackberry and dark cherry woven through dried herbs, sage, tomato leaf, pencil shavings, cedar and ground pepper spice.

The palate is concentrated yet poised, balancing saturated blackcurrant and plum fruit against earthy herbal complexity, graphite minerality and subtle grilled nut notes. Fine acidity and ultra-refined cocoa powder tannins carry the wine effortlessly across the palate, creating a texture that is both supple and architecturally precise.

The finish is long, savoury and persistent, trailing with cassis, bramble, spice and cool Eden Valley freshness. Andrew Caillard described it as “a lovely claret style infused with the perfume and terroir of the Eden Valley,” while Huon Hooke highlighted its ability to remain “powerful and yet elegant,” affirming the wine’s stature as one of Australia’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons.
